Team Spotlight: Thea Weiss, LCSW

We love highlighting the wonderful people who make up our team, and today we’re shining a spotlight on Thea Weiss, LCSW. Thea recently celebrated her one-year anniversary at Virago! She supports clients through the effects of trauma, grief, and anxiety, as well as the challenges of identity, relationships, and life changes. Thea does a wonderful job creating a safe, compassionate space where clients feel truly heard, and she is such a valued member of our clinical team.

Hi Thea! How long have you worked in the mental health field?

“Almost 5 years!”

What made you want to become a therapist?

“I found that I loved working in connection with other people and seeing them as holistic human beings. It is really meaningful to connect the way that they currently move about the world to powerful responses from earlier in their lives. I found that it is a passion of mine to help people understand themselves better and feel seen, heard, and valued.”

What area of women’s mental health are you most passionate about?

“Developmental trauma & attachment, anxiety, and relationships”

What is your favorite part of being a therapist?

“I appreciate watching folks develop confidence, groundedness, and stand in their own power. It is inspiring to sit with people through the hard moments and witness vulnerability, growth, and survival as we all navigate a complex world.”

What would you be voted “most likely to”?

“Most likely to carry beverages with me everywhere - I always have water, coffee, and usually tea with me at all times!”

What is your personal top self care skill?

“Moving my body outside - walking, running, hiking, swimming!”

And finally, what advice would you give someone who is just getting started in therapy?

“Starting therapy is so brave - and you deserve to feel accepted in how you show up when starting something new and hard! I also always recommend trusting your feelings about therapist fit, as you deserve to feel like the relationship you can build with your therapist can be safe, supportive, and right for your individual needs.”

Thank you Thea, we’re so glad to celebrate you and all that you bring to Virago.
